What's your level?

Players use numbers from 2.0 to 5.0+ to find fair games. Use this plain-language guide to rate yourself before open play. It's a self-check, not an official rating — when in doubt, round down.

  1. 2.0

    Just starting

You're learning the rules and how scoring works. Short rallies, lots of laughs.

  2. 2.5

    Getting the hang of it

You can keep a slow rally going and you know about the kitchen, but serves and returns are still hit-or-miss.

  3. 3.0

    Consistent basics

Serves and returns land most of the time. You're starting to dink and to move up to the net with your partner.

  4. 3.5

    Building control

You can place shots, hold short dink rallies and you're trying third-shot drops. Fewer unforced errors.

  5. 4.0

    Solid all-court

Reliable drops, dinks and volleys. You vary pace and spin, and you and your partner move as a unit.

  6. 4.5+

    Advanced

Few unforced errors, patient at the kitchen, can reset hard shots and change strategy mid-game. Tournament level.

How open play works

  1. 1. Check in & queue

Sign in at the court and put your paddle in the queue (the “paddle stack”). The next four in line go on court.

  2. 2. Play a game

Usually doubles, first to 11, win by 2. Games are short, so nobody waits long.

  3. 3. Rotate & mix

Come off, paddle back in the queue, new partners next game. That's the social part — you meet everyone.

Formats vary by venue. Some use a sign-up board or an app instead of a paddle stack.

Questions

What is pickleball?

A paddle sport that mixes tennis, badminton and table tennis. It's played on a small court with a solid paddle and a plastic ball with holes, usually as doubles. It's easy to start and hard to master.

What's the kitchen?

The non-volley zone: the 7-foot area on each side of the net. You can't hit the ball out of the air while standing in it. You can step in to play a ball that has bounced.

What's court stacking?

A way for doubles partners to each play the side they like best. They line up on the same side before the rally, then switch to their preferred sides as soon as the serve or return is hit. It's legal and optional. This is about where you stand on court, not the paddle queue. Read the court stacking guide

Bago lang ako. Pwede ba ako sumali?

Oo! Most open play groups welcome beginners. Rate yourself honestly with the guide above — when in doubt, round down — and join a session for your level.

What do I need to start?

Court shoes with good lateral support, a paddle and water. Many groups have loaner paddles for first-timers, so ask before you buy.

Are there games near me yet?

Hosts are posting the first sessions now, so your town may not have games listed yet. Sign in with Google, set your level, and check Find a game. Run a regular group? Become a host.

How do I become a host?

Sign in, set up your profile, then accept the short host rules and you can post right away. New hosts start with limits and a New host badge. Run a few sessions with real players and the limits go up and the badge goes away.

What if a session looks fake?

Tap Report this session on its page. Admins review every report, and a session reported by several players can be hidden until they do. Be careful about paying before you've met a new host. You can pay at the venue if the host allows it.

Can I chat with other players?

Yes. You can message anyone you've shared a match, session or league with; anyone else gets a message request they can accept or decline. Every session has its own chat, and you can block or report anyone. Your email and phone number are never shown.

How do court requests work?

Courts whose managers use URBANDINKR show free hours on a schedule. Pick your slots and send a request; the manager approves or declines it. Nothing is paid in the app: you pay at the venue or by GCash to the manager.

Will it cost anything?

The app is free. A session may have a court or game fee set by its host, shown on the session page. You pay at the venue or by GCash to the host; nothing is paid through the app.

How does the rating work?

Everyone gets an URBANDINKR rating on a 2.0 to 5.0 scale, separate for doubles and singles. It starts from your self-rating and only moves after an opponent confirms the score. It's our own rating, not DUPR.

What does Photo verified mean?

Start a match in the app and take a lineup photo, then a photo of the scoreboard or score sheet after the game. The match gets a Photo verified badge. Your opponent still confirms the score. Photos are visible only to the players unless everyone agrees to make them public, and location data is removed.
